Seasonal Tips

Perennial Hibiscus

Hibiscus Moscheutos - Rose Mallow

Requirements:
Sun: 1/2 Day to Full Sun
Water: Water well after planting until established
Fertilization: 2 to 3 weeks after planting(next season-every 4 weeks with a general balanced food).

Perennial Hibiscus grow 2 1/2 to 3 feet tall. When planting, space plants 3 to 3 1/2 feet apart. Each plant will require a minimum of 3 to 3 1/2 feet in diameter as it matures. The huge 8 to 10 inch diameter blooms come in red, pink, and white with a rose throat.

During late fall, after the foliage has died back, prune stems 2 to 3 inches from the soil line. Mulch the root area with soil and/or straw(similar to roses). Important: Plants will not show signs of active growth until early summer(late May - early June). Be patient, the soil temperature needs to be quite warm before growth starts. Flowering will begin in late July and continue until late fall.

Perennial Hibiscus are outstanding in a border or as a medium-sized flowering hedge.
