Birch Tree Care
Prevention or treatment of leaf minor or Birch borer.*
1. Gently aerate ground around Birch tree roots.
2. Apply Di-Syston just before tree is going to leaf out and again 6 weeks later.
3. Work Di-Syston into the soil from about 1 foot from trunk to about the edge of the drip line.
Apply at a rate of 1 lb. per inch of trunk diameter (with clump Birch measure largest stem of trunk)
measure 6 inches above soil line.
4. Apply a tree fertilizer according to product directions. (such as Ferti-lome tree & shrub food).
5. Keep tree well watered. Birch have very shallow roots and need to be well watered in dry weather.
6. If leaf minor symptom begin to occur spray tree with Lindane (borer and leaf minor spray, or Malathion) in cloudy weather or in the evening.
* There is no cure for Birch borer, except extensive pruning of infected areas, Di-Syston is an excellent prevention method.
